As you can imagine when an invitation lands in my inbox to play dress up for the afternoon and perzu a jewellery boutique I jump at the opportunity. A couple of weeks ago on a lovely summers afternoon I headed down to Mayfair to check out Nude Jewellery and meet jeweller and owner the lovely Nikki Galloway.
In 2001 after years spent earning her stripes in the sun, rain and snow whilst selling at London market spots after moving from her Scottish homeland Galloway collected the keys for a charming retail spot in the prestigious Shepherd’s Market in Mayfair just a stone’s throw away from one of her old market spots.
From the outset Galloway wanted Nude Jewellery to be a place where she could support young talent and offer them a “leg up” and a platform to showcase their designs, something which was absent in her early career. So she launched ‘Graduate in the Spotlight’; a competition which offers its winner a spotlight position in the store and online for three months.
This year’s winner was the captivating eerie designs of Dovile Bertulyt, which feature oxidised silver clutching hand pendants and hand shaped earrings which appear to be grasping on to your lobes. Bertulyt’s designs are the ultimate epitome of gothic luxe.
As my eyes danced with delight over the displays and my fingers itched to trying on the jewels, I spied some Magpie favs, such as the alluring jewels of Jessica Nam and the queen of diamonds Myia Bonner. Let me give you a little tour of Nude Jewellery and it’s designers.
Now I can’t close this post without telling you about how Nude jewellery got it’s name. Well it’s a cheeky nod to the local areas historic shall we say parlours!
